Volunteer Advocate 1/1/2006
Be A Voice For A Child
Description: After being appointed by a Juvenile Court Judge as a volunteer advocate, our volunteers work on behalf of abused children to represent what is in the child’s best interest. These volunteers act as a communications link between the child and the system. As a child advocate, you would meet regularly with the child you represent in order to establish a rapport and learn what the child needs. Volunteers also investigation the circumstances of the child's life and ensure that their rights are protected during their time in foster care. They make recommendations to the judge about what’s best for the child’s future. The goal of the volunteer's recommendations is to create a permanent plan for the child so the child does not languish in the foster care system. Recommendations may include where the child will live, visitation with the parents, ensuring sibling visits, therapy, or educational assessments. Volunteer advocates must be at least 21 years old. Training is provided.
