Volunteer advocates immediately begin to impact the lives of the children they represent. In conjunction with their supervisors, volunteer advocates address both the legal and social issues facing these vulnerable youth. Children represented by Voices for Children spend less than half the time in foster care than their counterparts who are not represented by the organization. In St. Louis, the average stay in foster care is more then three years. Children with Voices for Children volunteer advocates spend an average of 18 months in foster care. Each year, individuals from across the St. Louis metro area will begin volunteering their time at Voices for Children. They are people of all ages, races, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Some are young, while others are middle aged or retired. Each plays a vital role in the direction of the organization. Each volunteer donates and gives of their time in ways that are meaningful and close to their heart. Voices for Children volunteers have stated that they get back much more then they give. That’s what it’s all about – adding value to your own life as well as the lives of others. Making an investment in the children in the City of St. Louis will directly impact the future of the community.
