Programs
Voices
for Children offers many ways to help.
Child Advocacy
Our central mission is to serve abused and neglected children by representing them in court, speaking for them as their Guardian ad litem. This is vital and important work, involving intensive training and supervision to help you be the voice of a child who might otherwise be lost in a complicated system that always moves too slowly for the children we serve. All our major efforts support this work and all other programs are secondary to it.
Hand Hope to a Child
Can you imagine a child who has never owned a book?
We know many. Hand Hope to a Child is an initiative by Voices for Children to provide a new book for each one of St. Louis Citys more than 4,000 foster children. Many of these children have never owned a book of their own. The gift of a book opens the imagination and brings hope to a child who may have none. Hand Hope to a Child grew organically out of innocent gifts of books to children. As is so often the case in our work, the children led us by the looks on their faces as they received the first book they ever owned. Like 7 year old Michael, who smiled with excitement and asked is it mine forever? as he wrote his name in the inside cover of his very own new book. The gift of a book opens the imagination and brings hope to a child who may have none. It says I believe in you and what you can become.
Hand Hope to
A Child
a safe home is the first step, but the real road to a
productive future for these children is through the love of books and
education. Opening their eyes through learning will bring a better
way of life for them, and when they are older, for their children,
too.
