Development Director

Voices for Children represents the best interests of abused and neglected children placed in St Louis City foster care. Voices’ child advocates provide advocacy services to our children to ensure their safety and enable them to heal and improve their experiences in foster care and after. This is accomplished by ensuring our children are receiving the educational, health and mental health services they need to heal and working to find them safety and stability in a home where they can thrive.

The development director is responsible for securing the financial and in-kind resources needed to support the current $1m+ budget and our long term goal of serving every child in foster care in St Louis city and serving each child with the highest quality advocacy. In this role, the development director will be responsible for the following:

• In partnership with the executive director, develop a comprehensive fundraising plan with short-term and long-term strategies that ensure organizational stability and sustainable long-term growth.
• Direct the implementation of the development plan in collaboration with the board, staff and volunteers.
• Foster a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization and ensure a mission-driven approach to development.
• Manage the efforts of development staff and consultants to ensure every aspect of the process – research, cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship – is managed with a high level of quality and attention to detail.
• Cultivate long-term relationships with individual and institutional investors by effectively matching investors’ philanthropic goals with organizational goals.
• Participate in financial management by contributing to short- and long-term financial planning.
• Develop and implement communications strategies to support effective fundraising efforts.
• Organize the development function for maximum efficiency, quality and responsiveness.
• Evaluate the cost effectiveness of specific development and communications strategies.
• Collaborate as part of the senior management team on various organizational initiatives such as marketing, strategic planning and building a more inclusive organization.

The development director will join a team of passionate child advocates in a diverse and stimulating work environment. This senior management position reports to the executive director and is the lead staff position to the development committee. Voices for Children offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits package – salary will be commensurate with experience and fundraising track record.

The ideal candidate will bring the expertise, experience and personality needed to effectively carry out the responsibilities outlined above and be a good fit with the organizational culture. Specifically, the ideal candidate will

• have worked on behalf of underserved children and families, in development or direct services.
• have at least 3 years of experience in development with a documented track record of successful fundraising including managing institutional and individual investor development programs (CFRE desirable).
